Course Information

Description

Course, designed for non-science majors, that surveys topics from physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, and meteorology.

Prerequisites

Basic skill competency in reading, writing, and math.
Learn how to use Blackboard and Microsoft Teams.

1-    Determine the components of linear motion like displacement, velocity, and acceleration. Understand different types of equilibrium.

6-    Understand and solve problems of projectile motion and satellites.

10-    Understanding atoms, fundamental particles, their interactions, and the periodic table.

13-    Learn about the elements and compounds and know how to name them.
14-    Understand Ions and types of bonds, molecules.

Welcome to PHYS 1315, Fall, 2021. Congratulation on achieving this stage in your life as a college student. So many generations and numerous individuals have made this community a nurturing environment for every one of us with their hard work, sacrifices, and integrity. In return, as part of your appreciation and responsibilities, the highest standards of integrity and maturity are expected of you, our valued younger generation. I am looking forward to getting to know you and hope you will have a fruitful and safe life this semester. Please stay safe and healthy, and never please TEXT and DRIVE!

We often miss the opportunity of learning something just because of not asking for a hint or clue at the early stages. Please ask me any questions, and discuss any concerns, SOON. Nothing is trivial to your instructor.

How assignments, exams, and quizzes are handled: All the exams, quizzes, or HW will become inaccessible right at the due date and time, and students can no longer have access to or submit/post their work. For assessing your grades and better learning, the answer to most of the assignments will be posted on the content folder shortly after the due date. You CANNOT and should not email any work partially or fully!

Every assignment, test, homework, etc., should be typed and submitted/posted on Blackboard only. It is students' responsibility to have reliable computer and internet access for the duration of this course. Exams and quizzes can only be taken on a laptop or desktop computer. If your laptop/desktop computer breaks for any reason during the semester, it does not excuse the requirements and deadlines of the course. It is your responsibility to make sure all exams and assignments are completed by their due date and according to the instructions given. If uncertain about the reliability of your internet access during the exams, then use the computers at the library.

SafeAssign app on Blackboard examines all the assignments for any plagiarism. Matching of 20% or more can either lead to a zero “0” grade ( 1st offense) and failure of the course (2nd offense) for all the parties involved, or loose marks as follow. An example: Your grade on the HW is 85, and your Bb overall match is 35%. Your grade on this HW is 85 – 35 = 50.
It is the student's responsibility to prevent any failure of this kind by all means. However, you can post your homework (only homework) two times with no penalty. If you get an unacceptable overall match % the first time, you can edit the HW, resolve the problem and resubmit it for a second time. Your instructor will grade the second posted HW.

College-assigned email accounts will be used to deliver official college correspondence. Each individual is responsible for information sent and received via the email account. Your instructor will not accept any correspondence by any other person via your college email account. This includes your parents/guardians. Parents/guardians of early college or dual credit students are requested please to contact the relevant department. The instructor will not communicate with parents.

You are expected to be courteous towards the instructor and your classmates.

While perfect attendance is not required, your attendance will be regularly evaluated.

Five absences in face-to-face classes will result in an "F" for the final grade.

Meetings

Students registering for online sections may attend face-to-face class “online via Microsoft Teams” live. Time and days will be announced the first week of the semester. Your instructor is lecturing your same course in a face-to-face class session at this time and you can watch it live. Lectures are recorded and will be posted on Teams for those who cannot attend.
In case you cannot attend the live meetings, you will need to watch the recorded session.

Determination of
Final Grade

1. HW (Average of ten homework) worth 40 %.
Academic Assessment is considered as one HW.
2. MIDTERM EXAMS (Average of three exams) worth 30 %.
3. QUIZZES (Average of four quizzes) worth 20 %.
4. COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM worth 10 %

The number of homework, exams, and quizzes are not fixed. This course, just as our daily life, is dynamic. That is the nature of science, which examines and questions everything, again and again, to differentiate between what is true and what only pretends to be true. Your instructor integrates current events into your course work and assignment; often, promptly responds to your needs by giving a short assignment to clarify ambiguities and sharpen your critical thinking.

All the homework and quizzes are posted and submitted online on Bb. However, Exams could be online, take-home, or proctored.

No grades are dropped, and any uncompleted assignment, exam, or quiz will be averaged in with a grade of zero “0”. No makeup exams, homework, or quizzes are given, and there is NO retakes/resubmission on any exam, quiz, or homework. Late assignments will not be accepted and will result in a grade of zero. Exams, Quizzes, and homework that are not taken/submitted as scheduled will receive a grade of zero. The quiz and exam questions will be of multiple-choice, true-false, matching, or essay types. Any of the quizzes or exams may contain essay questions.
